Collection & Redistribution
The Full Story
Firmly believing that dressing in appropriate dance attire significantly boosts a dancer's confidence and mindset, helps dancers feel more empowered and provides a freedom of movement that makes dancers feel ready to perform, we have been collecting gently used dance and active wear of all sizes including shoes and costumes, every year since 2021. We collect on a rolling basis through direct appeals to dance troupes. We also participate in annual summer drives at various schools and all Fontana pharmacies island-wide in partnership with our sister initiative, UniCycle Jamaica (@unicyclejamaica). We sort the items and then distribute them to dancers in need at schools that offer dance. The schools are identified by the Education Ministry's Performing Arts Unit and the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) and they assist with the distribution.
